Sergeant Jason L. Sheppard, 29, of the Aiken County, South Carolina Sheriff’s Office died on December 8th from injuries sustained after he was struck by a vehicle on December 7th while directing traffic at the scene of a fire.

Sergeant Sheppard had served his department for 2 years. He is survived by his wife.

Sergeant Michael Larson, 43, of the Bryan County, Georgia Sheriff’s Office was killed in an automobile accident caused by a drunk driver.

Sergeant Larson was a US Army veteran. Sergeant Larson had served his agency for 3 years. He is survived by his wife and three children.

Lieutenant John W. McKinney
, 57, of the Whitfield County, Georgia Sheriff’s Office suffered a fatal heart attack following a tactical shooting exercise at the department’s range.

Lieutenant McKinney had served his agency for 21 years. He is survived by his wife and two sons.

Agent Juan Jose’ Burgos-Ve’lez, 36, of the Puerto Rico Police department was shot and killed after he and several officers went to investigate the sounds of gunfire. The incident took place on December 7th.

Agent Burgos-Ve’lez had served his department for 13 years. He is survived by his wife and three children.

Officer Dwayne Freeto
, 34, of the Fort Worth, Texas Police Department was killed when his patrol vehicle was struck from behind while he was assisting a motorist with a flat tire on the Interstate.

Officer Freeto was a US Army veteran. He had served his agency for only 9 months. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
