Police Officer Scot Andrew Beyerstedt, 21, of the Mattawan, Michigan Police Department was killed Tuesday, July 26, 2005 as a result of a vehicle pursuit crash. Officer Beyerstedt had served as a part-time officer for the agency for only 2 week.
Police Officer Nels (Dan) Niemi, 42, of the San Leandro, California Police Department died on Monday, July 25, 2005 as the result of gunshot wound when he was shot and killed in an ambush attack while investigating a disturbance call. Officer Niemi served his department for 3 years. He is survived by his wife, son, and daughter.
