I note with sadness the passing of President Gerald Ford.
I graduated from High School in May of 1973, so the Watergate Hearings and the subsequent resignation of Richard Nixon as President is still vivid. President Ford arrived at a time when confidence in national leaders was at an all time low. Ford will always be remembered for pardoning Nixon. History will judge his decision to pardon Nixon so the country could move forward and heal.
Ford also survived several attempts on his life during his tenure as President. Despite the assassination attempts, Ford continued to be open and transparent in his dealings as President.
History will judge President Ford’s actions. His subsequent years after his Presidency reflected his skills as an elder statesman.
He will be missed.
